Principal's Report
Congratulations to our Student Parliament!
A big congratulations to our very active Student Parliament for the fantastic way they have coordinated today's pyjama themed free dress day. Their goal - to raise funds towards purchasing padding parking for a new basketball court - is not only thoughtful but also supports an important improvement to our school facilities. With 12 padding components needed, their contribution will make a real difference.
What has truly stood out is their industrious and impressive organisation. From the initial planning stages to advertising the event, informing our school community, and collecting donations, they have demonstrated excellent teamwork, initiative and leadership. Well done to all involved!
We'd also like to thank our school community for supporting the Student Parliament initiative. Your participation and generosity help make these student-led projects such a success.
Moderation day - Strengthening Assessment Practice
On Friday 6 June staff from Rosetta Primary School will be joining with Windermere Primary School and Lindisfarne Primary School colleagues for a moderation morning. Together, we will be assessing student literacy reading tasks using a shared scale that enables all participating schools to reach a common understanding of assessment ratings aligned with the Australian Curriculum achievement standards. This collaborative process deepens our collective assessment knowledge and promotes consistency in grading across Tasmanian schools.
Following this, we will return to Rosetta where our teachers will engage in further moderation - this time focusing on mathematics samples from their current units. It promises to be a valuable day of professional learning, filled with rich discussions and constructive collaboration to strengthen our assessment practices.
Looking forward to seeing everybody after the long weekend.
Kind regards
Deirdre Arendt
Principal

Montrose Bay High School Visit
Last Monday 26 June the Principal of Montrose Bay High School (MBHS), Mr Tim Nicholas met with Grade 5 students and a group of Grade 6 Students who identified their intention to attend MBHS in 2026.
This was an excellent exchange of information about curriculum programs and opportunities to explore new experiences at high school – including the arts, sports, STEM challenges, community engagement and much more.
Mr Nicholas was accompanied by ex-Rosetta Primary School students Vahla and Ruby. They spoke extremely well and were self-assured when responding to questions from our students. They discussed their experiences of life in a high school, particular enjoyments and also being able to personally challenge themselves in different contexts.
There will be future opportunities for Grade 6 students transitioning to High School in the coming months. In the meantime, if parents have not completed their High School Intention forms, they should complete these and return to either MBHS or Rosetta Primary School. the school office can provide copies if needed.

On Thursday 12 June 5-6A and 5-6C will be visiting The Female Factory in South Hobart for an excursion to deepen our understanding of Australia’s colonial history and the treatment of female convicts.

We will be leaving school at 11:10am and returning by 2:00pm.
Thank you

News from 5-6B
5-6B have been learning about area and perimeter this term. As part of the unit our class has been learning about the practical uses of area and perimeter by creating garden plans. We have also planted tulips in individual pots as a means to demonstrate the area required for plants.

News from the Learning Hub
As part of Reconciliation Week activities, students in the Learning Hub explored Aboriginal First Nations connection to country through Sea Country written by Aunty Betsy Cameron. As a response to the text, students made meaning and shared their ideas of connection to country. This was followed by a virtual tour of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery to explore Tasmanian First Nations artifacts.

E Team

This week the E team have been working on maintaining our garden areas by doing lots of weeding!
As everyone knows the weeds outgrow the plants at this time of the year.
We have also been able to use some of our compost to boost the plants we have growing.
Our fun fact this week is:
The best ways to address weeds include pulling weeds out as soon as they appear, smothering them with weed matting or mulch, and using herbicides.

Children's University

Last week a small group of Children's University students attended an after-school session with Sachie from UTAS. The students created their own Mindfulness jars which they can use to help deal with negative feelings they may experience.
Another session is planned for Week 9.
