From the Principal
Dear Families
Welcome to Term 4!
I am thrilled to be the Acting Principal for Rosetta Primary for Term 4 and extend a warm welcome to all our families—whether you’re returning or new to our school community. Term 4 is always a busy and exciting time, and we’re off to a fantastic start!
SunSmart Reminder: Hats On!
As the weather warms up, it’s important that all students are wearing their SunSmart hats during outdoor play and learning. Hats are a must in Term 4 to protect against UV exposure. If your child has misplaced their hat, please ensure a replacement is sent to school as soon as possible.
Celebrating Our First Assembly
Congratulations to Prep-1 Gamble, who shared beautifully at our first assembly of the term. It was a joy to see our youngest learners speaking confidently and engaging the audience. Thank you to all families who attended and helped make the event a success.
Important Dates:
Please note the following student-free days this term:
- Show Day – Public Holiday Thursday 23 October
- Professional Learning Day – Friday 24 October
This Friday, while students and families enjoy a well-earned break, Rosetta teachers will be immersed in a variety of professional learning opportunities. Staff will be deepening their expertise in effective literacy practices, expanding their understanding of strategies to enhance student wellbeing and support, and engaging in collaborative planning. Our Grade 5–6 team will also spend time at Montrose High School, sharing key information to support a smooth and confident transition for our Grade 6 students. The day provides valuable time for reflection—an opportunity to pause, review, and refine our teaching approaches to ensure we continue delivering high-quality learning experiences for every child.
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance is vital for every child’s learning and wellbeing. We encourage families to prioritise school attendance and reach out if your child is experiencing challenges. Every day counts, and together we can support every learner to thrive.
Have a wonderful week
Frances Thorp
A/Principal

Student Parliament Update

Hello everyone – Thank you to students and staff who participated in the free dress/sports colours’ day event at the end of Term 3.
There was great fun in being able to wear your favourite sports colours, especially with so many grand final events happening at the time!
We initially collected $168.95 on the day and then received a $25.00 donation from Andrea at the School Canteen. We were grateful for the support of our school and community.
Thanks to Colton and Emily in 5-6 D who collected and counted the money and to Ms Cleaves for her support on the day.
School Crossing

Please be mindful when driving along Riverview Parade that the crossing in front of the school regularly has families and children crossing. It is the responsibility of drivers to be alert to the traffic conditions and stop when there are people on the crossing.
This ensures those using the crossing are safe.
Recently we have experinced a number of cars driving through the crossing and not recognising that there are families waiting to cross or recognising that the speed zone around schools is 40.
It is everyone’s responsibility to remain safe and alert when driving on roads. Please support us in this matter.
The road works in the school vicinity continues. This also means that drivers will need to be alerted to changing traffic conditions and hazards.
We thank everyone for their support in these matters

Montrose Bay High Visit
During the final part of Term 3 students who will be attending Montrose Bay High School (MBHS) in 2026 experienced a mini orientation morning and familiarisation program planned.
This exceptional opportunity provided students with an insight into some of the learning they will participate in throughout 2026. It also provided an opportunity to meet with some of the Year 7 staff team and a number of the older students who provided guidance and support throughout the morning – and who kindly and patiently responded to questions about life at MBH. Students participated in games in the gym, a visual arts activity, and a very popular science challenge to see who could build the highest tower structure. These experiences allowed students to meet with staff, listen to an outline of curriculum areas as well as understand the expectations of what it looks like to be a learner at MBH. During the BBQ lunch a number of students in Year 10 performed musical pieces and then Sam in Grade 6 at Rosetta joined his sister to sing their favourite song. This impromptu performance was well received by everyone. We thank the students who worked good naturedly to prepare the lunch and serve the food.
These connections with MBH are appreciated by students as they navigate towards the new experiences and learning opportunities available in the high school environment.

We will depart school at 9:15am by bus and return by 2:45pm, in time for regular end-of-day dismissal.

Please ensure your child brings a packed lunch, drink bottle and hat for the day’s activities.
We are also seeking parent/carer volunteers to assist on the day.
If you are available and interested, please note that volunteers will need to hold a current RWVP card and Safeguarding Certificate.
Please contact Miss Trepkowski or Mr Bourke if you’d like to volunteer or have any questions.

5/6C Novel Study: The Wild Robot
This term, 5/6C are immersed in a novel study of The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. The story follows Roz, a robot who finds herself stranded on a remote island and must learn to adapt, survive, and connect with the natural world. Through this engaging narrative, students are exploring themes of identity, belonging, and resilience.
In addition to discussing the story’s deeper messages, students are building essential literacy skills, including:
- Expanding vocabulary through exposure to rich and descriptive language
- Strengthening grammar knowledge by analysing sentence structures and language choices
- Improving sentence-level writing through guided responses and creative tasks
- Developing reading fluency by practising expressive reading and comprehension strategies
This unit supports students in becoming thoughtful readers and confident writers, while encouraging empathy and critical thinking through literature.

UFLI
Reading is a fundamental skill for success in school and in life.
At Rosetta Primary School all students from Prep to Grade 3 have been using a program called UFLI Foundations which has a specific scope and sequence designed to ensure that all students systematically acquire skills needed to read.
Through the lessons, students develop awareness of the sounds of speech and how they link to letters. They read words, analyse word parts, and write and recognise words. Students also read text every day to support reading accuracy, fluency and comprehension.
UFLI for Prep to Grade 2 is held at the same time each day from 10:20 am to 10:50 am.
If you would like to know more about UFLI feel free to talk to your child’s teacher.

E Team
Last week, the members of the E team were very busy moving some of the compost which we make from our food waste collection into a new garden bed.
We are preparing the soil for our tomatoes, which as we all know, should be planted around Show Day.
We also may have raided the peas....yum!!
Our fun fact this week is
Some interesting suggestions about planting tomatoes - ground temperature should be around 15 degrees, stagger planting so the tomatoes are ripe at different times and plant in a sunny spot as tomatoes need around 5 hours of sun a day. Happy planting, growing and eating!!
